Orphaned non-free image (Image:Eris and dysnomia.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Eris and dysnomia.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 02:44, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I have moved your good image of blue hour over to Commons and nominated it as an FP. Could you please supply some location or geodata in order to increase its value for other Wikimedia projects? Thanks, Freedom to share (talk) 17:25, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, the location is +38.7899,-9.4927 ; Just north of Cape Roca, as I had described before. Rnbc (talk) 21:30, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Good news, the image was promoted to a Wikimedia Commons featured picture. I congratulate you on this success and encourage you to attempt and nominate more images for Commons Featured Picture Candidates. Nice work, Freedom to share (talk) 15:09, 3 April 2008 (UTC) (Sorry for taking so long to bring this news to you btw)[reply]
Oh... thanks! I've been very short in time to make decent photos lately... Anyway, I have a gallery in flickr, and all photos are under a "creative commons" license. But I'll share the best of them on commons, if they have interesting content, besides being just pretty pictures. I would love to do more documental photos, of for botany articles, for example... Gasometer

[edit]

I've made an SVG image of Image:Gasometer.png; you can find it at Image:Gasometer.svg. I've placed the SVG version in the article. Would you object if I deleted the PNG? —Scott5114 [EXACT CHANGE ONLY] 23:20, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You can delete it if you want, no problem. Rnbc (talk) 10:45, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kaleidoscope tube photos

[edit]

Hello. Image:Kaleidoscope tube.jpg and its cropped version Image:800px-Kaleidoscope-tube-modified.jpg are derivative works of the pictures on the tube. Thus they are copyright violations unless the author of the pictures on the tube has died more than 70 years ago (or released them as free), if you’ve made the photo in Portugal. Is there anything to save the images from deletion? Thanks. --AVRS (talk) 17:13, 23 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Erm... yes, I took the photos myself, and in Portugal a photo of a product used to ilustrate a concept or a generic class of products, or even the product itself (in a review, for example) is not a copyright violation, the same way a photo of a building is not a copyright violation: it's not the product itself, and it's not trying to copy the product itself, it's only an image of the product. Besides, the owner of the copyrights on the tube, Majora, went bankrupt years ago and ceased to exist. Rnbc (talk) 23:33, 23 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, just asked my father about that kaleidoscope: it's from 1940 or so... and the manufacturer, Majora, ceased to exist more than 10 years ago. Also, as I said (and I just informed myself), publishing a picture of a product is not a copyright violation, unless the product and the photography are substantially the same thing, which is definetly not the case in this situation, so just move on! Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 19:51, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
